A Parma pinion puller costs $12.50. I fabricated my own gear press, but a C-clamp is OK except that you lot have to put something with a hole in it betwixt the gear and the body of the clamp so long motor shafts volition have some identify to go.

I have been involved with slot cars since te sixties, I have several pinion pullers that I use. But I very seldom utilize a press to fit a pinion to a motor! I use a small piece of steel with a 2.v mm hole in it and then gently tap the motor shaft with a hammer to drive the motor shaft into the pinion.
I have found that some of the pinion printing,s that are available do not press the pinion on square.

I have found that some of the pinion press, southward that are bachelor practice not press the pinion on foursquare.

Up in this hemisphere, we usually apply circular pinion shafts Phil, makes it much easier.

All kidding aside, I do similar the design of the Slot.it pinion gears, beingness slightly dished on i side to facilitate pressing on correctly.

When I designed my press I included a pin to hold the pinion gear in the right spot and there is a dimple in the finish of the screw to locate the motor shaft. I can't imagine my press e'er bending or stripping out!

Paul square shafts concur the pinions meliorate!
When looking for a printing look for 1 that has no side ways movement in the screw thread.
Rich's home fabricated one looks solid enough!

All that hassle over fitting a pinion! Why not but drill out the hole in the pinion to the same size of the motor shaft so that it is a nice sliding fit on the shaft and and then put a pocket-size drop of Loctite into the pinion hole and push button it onto the shaft? Holds the pinion to the motor shaft nicely and won't work loose but tin hands exist pulled off past applying a hot soldering iron to the pinion to intermission the bond.

I guess the questioner wants to stick with unmodified push fit pinions.

Other options are to buy solder on pinions which are already accept holes that size. (These are mainly available for higher functioning slot car gears.)

And of form y'all can solder the pinion on, equally has been standard practice for the more powerful types of slot machine for at least 40 years.

If you lot know the right manner to solder on a pinion you should not have a problem, but I take seen a lot of soldered pinions spin off, fifty-fifty when they were put on past experienced racers. I practice not trust Loctite to hold on a pinion, it starts to go bad as shortly as you open up the container, and so if you must use Loctite stick with fairly fresh stuff.
